By materials: The IHRC welcomes support in many forms and from many people. Immigrants and their descendants often donate materials to its collections. If you are interested in donating such materials to the IHRC collections, please see our donating materials page for this type of gift.
By volunteering: Students and members from local communities—many of them with special language skills—volunteer their time. Over the past thirty years, thousands of individuals from Minnesota and beyond have contributed financially to a number of successful fundraising campaigns; the endowments they’ve helped to build now support scholarly programming, curatorial work and student fellowships. We invite you to help the IHRC continue to grow.
By making a financial gift: In 2006, after responding to a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Hamanities (NEH), the University of Minnesota ended a six-year fund raising campaign to support the IHRC. The campaign raised 1.2 million dollars that were then matched by an additional $300,000 from the NEH. The campaign resulted in two fully-funded graduate student fellowships and endowments to support special IHRC collections that document the histories of a number of immigrant and ethnic groups.
In 2008-2009, the IHRC's highest priority for receiving financial gifts is to guarantee that the IHRC will have a permanent professorship fund named after long-time IHRC Director Rudolph J. Vecoli. We welcome your contributions to the Vecoli Professorship which supports IHRC lecture series and seminars, special research projects, and conferences.
