PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, NJ), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2009. Gristel Ramler and Birgit Nurme of the National Archives in Tallin, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

14.05.1890 - 30.08.1972 New York, USA Born in Karula, Võrumaa, Estonia. Brother: Juhan Tamm; wife: Ella-Johanna Tamm (nee Tärn, married in 1915); daughter: Agnes Tamm-Kuusk; wife: Aliide-Hildegard Tamm (nee Lyra, married in 1928). Family Tamm moved to province Pihkva (Russia) in 1894 and to Petseri (Russia) in 1899. Clerk, accountant. Participated in WWI. Emigrated to Germany in 1944 (Freiberg, Geislingen) and to the U.S. in 1949, gained citizenship in 1955. 1950-1966 employed as a sexton by St. Jacobus Evangelican Lutheran Church

Folder 1: Personal documents, membership cards, biography (by J. Tamm, 1972), memories, translated extract from book of Russian history, handmade maps and collected materials about Estonians on the eatern side of lake Peipsi, letter to Ferdinand Kool about donating archival materials (1928-1972)
