PROVENANCE

Collection acquired from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A., Lakewood, New Jersey, in 2003-2005. It was processed in May 2013 by Peeter Väljas and Aet Tran-Tõnissoo of the National Archives of Estonia in Tallinn, working with IHRC Archivist Daniel Necas.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Richard Sööt 1903 Valga, Estonia - 2002 New Jersey, USA Artist of applied graphics; book illustrator; designer; painter; artist Studied: Laatre Russian Church School, Valga Commercial School, Valga Gymnaasium for boys. While serving in the Estonian army he obtained technical education and serviced the army working as a Civil Architect. 1933 -Richard Sööt 1903 Valga, Estonia - 2002 New Jersey, USA Artist of applied graphics; book illustrator; designer; painter; artist Studied: Laatre Russian Church School, Valga Commercial School, Valga Gymnaasium for boys. While serving in the Estonian army he obtained technical education and serviced the army working as a Civil Architect. 1933 – 1936 State School of Art=Riigi Kõrgem Kunstikool (Tallinn, Estonia) studied Decoration and Interior Architecture.

1937: Established his own company "Estonian Applied Art" ("Eesti Tarbekunst") 1941: Soviet Estonian Art Corporation, Director of Decoration Department. 1944 left to Germany, Hochfeld DP camp in Augsburgi, founded and led there Rakenduskunstiõppestuudio (Studio for learning applied arts) 1949 moved to USA, worked in USA : Tumarkin Morgan Emerman (NYC) - draftsman, process piping. Allied Process (NYC) - draftsman designer, process piping design. Singstad and Baillie (NYC) - Baltimore Tunnel architectural design. Chemical Construction Corporation (NYC) - architect. 1962-1999 - freelance artist Organizations: Berufsferband Bilender Künstler in Schwaben = (Švaabimaa Kujutavate Kunstnike Kutseühing) (member, Saksamaal 1944 – 1949); Eesti Kunstnike Koondis Torontos (Society of Estonian Artists in Toronto) (member); Federated Art Associations of New Jersey (liige); Morris County Art Association (member); E.E.L.K. New Yorgi Kogudus / New York congregation of the Estonian Lutheran church (member of the board, councillor ) Married 1925 – wife: Minna (m.n.
