|Abstract:||Collection consists of autobiographical and biographical materials, correspondence, research papers and notes, conference presentations, reprints of published articles. Included are also numerous albums of photographs from the 1930's to 1990's.|
Collection acquired from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A., Lakewood, New Jersey, in 2003-2005.
Walter Rand (b.1914) PhD, among displaced persons from Estonia after 1945, resettled in the US, Professor of Civil Engineering at City University New York. Born on June 11, 1914 in Estonia. Graduated from the Technical University of Tallin in 1941, received the Doctor of Engineering degree at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1943. Involved in hydraulics research at Karlsruhe (1942-1944), worked as project engineer with M. Delens Enterprises in Brussels 1945-1951. Researcher in hydraulics at the State University of Iowa (1951-1953). Assistant Professor at the New York University (1953-1956) and the City College of New York since 1956. Author of many publications in the area of civil engineering.
