PROVENANCE

Collection acquired from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A., Lakewood, New Jersey, in 2003-2005. It was processed in May 2013 by Peeter Väljas and Aet Tran-Tõnissoo of the National Archives of Estonia in Tallinn, working with IHRC Archivist Daniel Necas.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Pillak, Peep (1957 Ahja, Põlva district, Estonia )- Estonain historian and archivist Studied in Tallinna Secondary School No. 10 ndnd Tartu University (M.A. 2002) Worked in Mahtra Peasentry Museum (1982-1983), 1983-1991 archivist and chief - inspector in the Archives Department of the Council Of Ministers of the Estonian SSR; 1991-1996 Director of the Archives Department of Estonia; 1997-2000 researcher, head of Department and advisor to the Director in the State Archives of Estonia; 2013 - Chairman of the Estonian Heritage Society 1993 - expert on of the Estonian delegation in the negotiations between Republic of Estonia and Russian Federation; 1997-2000 Chairman of the Governmental commission dealing withe the Estonian cultural treasures abroadv Organizations: founder and President of the Young Archivist´s Board (Noorte Arhivistide Nõukogu); founding member and chairman of the Estonian Society of Archivists ( Eesti Arhivaaride Ühing); founding member and member of the Bard of the estonian Academic Society of War History (Akadeemilise Sõjaajaloo Selts). Awarded with the Estonian Order of the White Star, 4th Class (2005)
