Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2012. Gristel Ramler and Tiina Trumberg of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.


Miido, Maimu (also Maimo, nee Helila, also Helila-Miido, Maimu and Teder, Maimu) 09.12.1915 Petrograd, Russia – 14.03.2004 New York, USA

Musician, composer, conductor, organist, pianist, lecturer 1934 graduated from E. Lender Gymnasium (E. Lenderi Tütarlaste Gümnaasium) in Tallinn, Estonia. 1938 graduated from Tallinn Conservatory, specializing in piano and singing (studied singing under A. Arder). 1944 emigrated to Germany, 1949 to USA. Continued her studies in Chicago Conservatory of Music and Philadelphia Academy of Music. Was the organist at Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Seabrook Congregation, member of Estonian Sound Art Center in USA, choir leader in Seabrook Estonian Choir, member of Seabrook Estonian Society. Academically a member of fraternity Fidelia (Korp! Fidelia).

Husband: Endel Daughter: Helis

Awards: Estonian Culture Foundation in USA award of merit for the outstanding work promoting Estonian choir music, 1996.
