Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2012. Gristel Ramler and Tiina Trumberg of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
Elsa Karist (nee Otsus) Sept. 12, 1907- Jan. 26, 2008, married to Leo Karist (May 17, 1908 - ?). Emigrated to Germany, were in Altenstadt DP camp. Leo Karist participated in the activities of Estonian Committee at Kempten, was a member of Fraternity Ugala and New York Male Chorus. Elsa and Leo were members of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church New York congregation. They lived in Fort Montgomery, New York.
