PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, NJ), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2009. Gristel Ramler and Birgit Nurme of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.

Ernesaks, Oswald 19.10.1911 - 15.07.1995 Palm Beach, Florida, USA Born in Peningi, Estonia. Emigrated to Memmingen, Germany in 1945 at latest and to the U.S. in 1951. Brother: Gustav Ernesaks; wife: Klara Ernesaks; daughters: Reet (16.10.1939) and Tiiu (21.10.1942) Ernesaks; mother in law: Julie Siidam (ne Aloff). 1933-1934 University of Tartu, studied in the Economical Faculty. 1935-1938 Town administration of Tallinn - civil servant. 1939-1940 Town administration of Tallinn - assistant department leader. 1941-1944 Firm "Viro" (Tallinn) - bookkeaper. 1945 UNNRA Memmingen - policeman. Ernesaks, Klara (ne Siidam) 22.04.1916 - 31.01.1999 Palm Beach, Florida, USA Born in Tallinn, Estonia. Bookkeeper


DESCRIPTION OF THE COLLECTION

Collection is organized into four folders:

1. Personal documents: Identity certificates, certificates, handrwritten copies from the magazine "Ajalooline Ajakiri" 1933 (4), articles "Igaüks" and "Silmsi talupojad".

2. Personal documents of O. Ernesaks's wife and children.

3. Correspondence of family Ernesaks (letters from Estonia) 1954-1969.

4. Correspondence - letters from Gustav Ernesaks to O. Ernesaks.
