Peter Donadio was born in Dorchester, Mass., son of immigrants from Armento, Potenza, Italy. His father, Pietro V. Donadio, was active in the Republican Party and the Columbus Republican Club; his children were also active in civic affairs. Peter Donadio graduated from Boston University and has worked for the Internal Revenue Service. He has served the Order Sons of Italy in America, Massachusetts Grand Lodge, as Grand Trustee (1955-1959), First Assistant Grand Venerable (1959-1961), Grand Venerable (1961-1965), and as Third Assistant Supreme Venerable (1969-1975).
