UNICO National Graduate Fellowship

Italian American Studies

The Immigration History Research Center is pleased to announce that the UNICO Foundation, Inc., based in Bloomfield, NJ, has established a graduate fellowship fund for Italian American Studies at the IHRC with a generous gift of $25,000. In addition the Twin Cities Chapter of UNICO National has donated $10,000 to the fund. UNICO National, which is the largest Italian American service organization in the United States, has designated the IHRC as the official repository of  its archives.

The IHRC holds the most extensive collection of documentation of Italian American history in the world. These records are used by researchers from around the United States and abroad.

The UNICO National Graduate Fellowship Fund will provide financial support to graduate students engaged in studies for the Ph.D. in some area related to Italian American history and culture. The fellows will also be affiliated with the IHRC as interns; they will help in the processing and cataloging of the collection and assist scholars conduct research in the collection.

Your Help Is Needed... initial gifts of the UNICO Foundation and the Twin Cities chapter have established the fellowship fund which is invested and administered by the University of Minnesota Foundation. A total of $150,000 is needed to endow the award fully.

The UNICO Fellowship campaign is aided by a generous matching opportunity.  The University of Minnesota Graduate School's 21st Century Fund will match interest generated by this fund. We must act quickly--the 21st Century Fund is expected to be depleted by the end of this year. We don't want to lose this opportunity to double the impact of your gift.

A major national initiative, the creation of the UNICO National Graduate Fellowship in Italian American Studies constitutes an investment in the future of research and scholarship pertaining to the role of Italian Americans in the making of our country.
